Characteristics of UHMWPE mooring rope

Characteristics of UHMWPE mooring rope

The mooring cable is made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber with a 12-strand single braid structure. It has a very high “specific strength”. When the diameter is the same, the strength is close to that of steel cables, and the specific gravity of 0.97 allows the cable to float while having high load performance. Special finishing technology is used during the production process, making the mooring cable have excellent bending resistance, wear resistance and extremely low tensile strain.

Feature 1:

Good UV and chemical resistance, high wear and fatigue resistance, torque-free braided structure.

Feature 2:

Lightweight: Density is less than that of water, so it can float. It is light and flexible. With the same breaking force, its weight is only one eighth of that of a steel cable.

Feature 3:

Ultra-high strength: It has extremely high specific strength. When the diameter is the same, its strength is similar to that of steel cable;

Feature 4:

Low elongation: breaking elongation is close to that of steel cable.

Use scenarios:

Offshore platform mooring, large ship berthing and fixing, marine scientific research equipment mooring, port terminal facility fixing.

Product parameters:

Precautions for using mooring ropes:

During the use of high-strength cables, if the following situations occur, they should be directly considered for scrapping:

a) The amount of fiber damage caused by wear exceeds 25%.

b) The number of broken rope strands exceeds 2.

c) After use beyond the working strength limit (20% of breaking strength).

d) The rope diameter is significantly reduced.

e) The permanent elongation of the rope is greater than 10% (compared to the new rope length).
